"Routine is Part of Coping," Lorene Scafaria

Updated: Jul 25, 2022

Dearest Proteas,

1. Why do some people like having a routine while others don't?

Point of view. Having a daily routine can be healthy yet, boring. On the one hand, it can be helpful for people to manage daily demands better. On the other hand, it can become boring for people who take on a Zombie-like attitude because it requires little thinking. However, one can decide to include the things one loves into daily routines, which can be life-changing. Please refer to our first blog post for a daily routine example.

2. What could one gain from having a daily routine?

Consistency. One can begin a daily workout routine, which improves health (improves mood, fights health conditions and diseases, promotes better sleep). One can become consistent with eating healthy foods, which enhances health (lowers too much body fat that can cause diabetes, hypertension, among other illnesses). And one can have set days for cheat meals (Fridays Fried Chicken Day: as a reward for eating healthy). Having a daily routine can go many ways. It is what one makes of it.

3. Does having a daily routine become damaging to one's health?

It depends. One can become consistent with the things meant to improve one's health (workout routines, spirituality, relationships, and so forth). On the contrary, one can become consistent with something intended to damage one's health (not drinking water, not sleeping, constantly fighting, and spending too much time on bad social media). Following practices that are inconsistent with one's health and unrealistic can be damaging.
